Here you will find posts from Florida (where we reside), New England, New York, Arizona, California, and Texas.
Thursday we drove from Phoenix to Sedona. Moving north, the saguaro make way for trees. It’s still desert with prickly pear and cholla (?) cacti, but not the iconic saguaro. Then the red rocks that make Sedona famous being to appear. The further you drive, the more dramatic they become….
Taliesin West We went to Taliesin West, the winter “camp” of architect Frank Lloyd Wright. It has been preserved as a UNESCO site. Afterwards, we chased down a couple of other Wright pieces: the spire he created as part of his design for the Arizona capitol building (his design was…
Although we flew into Phoenix, our first overnight was in Tucson, where we had planned some birding, outdoor activities, and general sightseeing. We drove from PHX down to Tucson, grabbing Raising Cane’s chicken for a quick dinner on the way. We don’t have those in our part of Florida, and…

On the second day of our Rhode Island trip, we got up early and headed toward Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge to do some birding. However, we first stopped at Second Beach to take pictures of the beautiful sunrise! Below is a cell phone photo. From there we drove on…

We recently had a wonderful opportunity to spend two days together with (most of) our family in New York City. This 2 Days in New York City itinerary reflects our actual trip. The main difference is that we actually arrived mid-morning on Sunday, and left mid-morning on Tuesday. Our teenage…
In July of 2021 we had the chance to take a puffin cruise in Maine with Cap’n Fish’s Cruises out to Eastern Egg Rock Island to see Atlantic puffins. These birds spend most of their lives on the sea, not on land, so the only good chance at seeing them…
